Don,

The current residents of New Orleans feel the trauma of Haiti. Despite the continued need for help in New Orleans, we sense a kinship between New Orleanians and Haitians.

The UUSC-UUA Gulf Coast Relief Fund helped our ruined city begin its path of returning to life. Today, 4 1/2 years after Katrina, our city has returned to a popint of celebration--not just for a victory at the Super Bowl, but for the belief, the interconnection, the melding with "our" football players, especially for the ways they helped us. As have many others, for which we are most grateful. But, our allegiance is to the UUSC-UUA. And, we want to help them with their work in Haiti.

To date, the Greater New Orleans Unitarian Universalist church have raised $2,464.00 for the UUSC-UUA Hatian Relief Fund. This includes: from First UU, New Orleans -- $1,109.00; from the North Shore UU Society -- $460.00; and from Community Church UU -- $895 (special offerings on 2nd Sundays, or, right before Lombardi Gras weekend).

We know the Haitian recovery will take many years. We plan to be there for them.

Appreciatively,

Rev. Jim VanderWeele
