The Southwestern UU Conference is led by an elected Board of Trustees in partnership with a professional and volunteer staff. Utilizing the principles of policy-based governance, the Board adopts policies that guide the direction and conduct of the staff. The staff, in turn, are encouraged to use their talents, expertise, and professional judgment to direct the day-to-day operations and organizations of SWUUC itself as part of a comprehensive long range plan. Through regular monitoring reports, the Board evaluates the performance of the staff based on agreed upon goals.
An annual meeting with congregational delegates is held on the 4th Saturday of each April. Elections are conducted, reports received, and business transacted. Congregations are strongly encouraged to participate in the annual meeting.
SWUUC predates the formation of the Unitarian Universalist Association itself. The first congregations to be formed in the area were First UU Church of New Orleans (1833) and First UU Church of Memphis (1894). The first annual meeting of the conference was held in 1939. We take great pride in our rich heritage and encourage you to read more about us.
